Martin Collier for Guelph

Bold Ideas • Working Together

Dear Neighbours,

It was a pleasure to meet with many of you during the 2014 municipal election campaign. Although I didn’t get elected to Guelph Council on October 27, I really enjoyed the experience and 1,314 Ward 2 voters did place an X beside my name -- a fourth place finish which I am humbled by given my September 12 entry into the race. This result shows that my bold ideas did resonate with many folks.  They included:

  1. Increase Citizen Engagement
  2. Expand Open Government
  3. Improve Transportation for All Ages
  4. Promote Heritage & The Arts
  5. Initiate Community Wellbeing Projects

Though Guelph boasts an above average quality of life with many great characteristics, I put forth these proposals to deal with many economic, environmental and social challenges in the short and long term. For the new council, chief amongst these is managing demand for services requested by an increasing population – 50,000 more people to be added to the current 118,000 over the next sixteen years. A forward thinking citizenry, council and staff – working together for the greater good – could turn these challenges into opportunities if we are to succeed individually and collectively.

I will continue to promote these ideas to council and media. Please contact me if you'd like to work together to make Guelph the best it can be!
